Benny’s striking design portfolio forms a platform for art to meet fashion. The reputation of the Fayte brand is already building, in advance of the official launch of the pieces, with the Fayte piece entitled ‘Life and Number, Number and Life’ selected by the Tokyo Type Directors Club (Tokyo TDC) for the 2008 award in Principal Typefaces. Benny is at the forefront of visual art culture in Hong Kong and mainland China, combining traditional Chinese design with a contemporary edge. Recognition of his talent led to him being named recently by Computer Arts Book as one of the “world’s greatest illustrators.” The Tokyo TDC a leading proponent of the expression of characters, going beyond traditional character design; has selected Benny’s work in graphic design, including his designs for t-shirts, for excellence awards in the last three consecutive years. The growing appreciation for Benny’s designs has led to commissions from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, to design a collection of merchandise for the 2008 Olympic Games; and also previously from Nike for artistic t-shirt design. This work sparked the idea for a unique brand, Fayte, with a mission to express and inspire creativity, for art to meet fashion, and to be different. Benny sees what he does as art, producing individually created designs, and aims to preserve the uniqueness of his work through limited releases of each piece. Fayte will be officially launched on 20 May 2008. |
